Professional Wedding Images

It took us a LONG time to find a wedding photographer.  This is not because there is a lack of wedding photographers.  Rather, we were looking for just the right one.

When we were meeting photographers we were able to eliminate some right away.  Attaching the word 'wedding' to any item automatically makes it more expensive, and photographers have caught onto this trend.  We found most of the packages to be overpriced and over-posed. We were willing to allocate a big piece of our budget for photos that we would treasure for a lifetime, but only if we were sure that would translate into quality images.

I love just soaking in a great image.  Just standing there looking at it, letting it stir my emotions and letting it tell it's story.  There are some people with the talent to take something ordinary, and see it from an extraordinary perspective.  There are some people that can even freeze emotions in time.  That is quality...

We owe immense thanks to Christina Sloan
for creating images that we will cherish for a lifetime

The Honeymoon Part III - Athens and the Ancient city

crush of people getting off the ferry from Naxos to Athens.

We visited only months after the collapse of the country's financial system. Deep in a recession, signs of unrest were evident in the capitol city, but we never felt unsafe.

That's my hubby, he's super strong.

Can you guess what this building once was? High-end toilets!

We walked through the remains of the ancient city center. This is a re-built version of the ancient city's commerce center where citizens would gather to buy and sell wares. Much of the stone is original, reassembled after careful archeological study.

So there it is... behind us is the Acropolis hill where ancient Greeks would travel to worship. Below, at the base of the hill lies the city center where the innovations of modern society were born. We walked through the city admiring the layout with a community "gym" which held sporting events and daily exercise. There was evidence of a water clock, one of the early ways of marking the passage of time.

One of the remarkable things about Athens is the merging of modern and ancient. Each day residents of Athens travel past archeological treasures on their way to work

The Honeymoon Part II - Naxos

This is our hotel in Naxos, overlooking the ocean. In retrospect, some of my favorite memories are sitting on this veranda planning our life together discussing finances, kids, household chores and looking forward to the unknown.

Playing with the new iPad Dad Einig got us for our wedding, sure comes in handy for traveling.

A sweet little couple runs this hotel. When you walk in the door they insist that you set down your luggage and have a juice drink and a snack before checking in.

Oh my! This is the junkiest little motorcycle ever! When we rented it in Naxos City it seemed to swerv more than usual, but we decided to go for it anyhow.  It got us halfway up Zeus mtn before the back wheel spokes gave out for good.

After the unfortunate demise of our motorcycle, we traded it in for a scooter and zipped around the remainder of the island

this Statue of Dionysos (the Greeek god of wine and festivity) once overlooked the sea, now not so much.

Naxos port

This is what remains of the sanctuary in honor of Apollo, it is only the doorway. The remainder was destroyed during an invasion.

The village is most stunning when gilded in the light of the setting sun.

This is the stinky cheese store, or at least that's what we called it. Self explanatory.

A wealthy 16th century colony family decided that these ancient temple columns would be a nice addition to their den. A true testament of how history is often appreciated only after the passage of much time.
