Goodbye old friend

Today we handed over the keys to the trusty Cavalier.  We had some difficulty selling the car due to the salvage title phobia, but finally a buyer found our Craigslist ad and brought us $2,450 cash this morning. I purchased the car for $4,500 in 2004.  That means that in the 2,555 days I've owned the car it cost me $.78 a day (plus gas, minimal maintenance, repairs of course).  Given that the car lost $2,000 in value during the 7 years I've owned it, that's only 44% depreciation.  That's the average that a brand new car depreciates just by being driven off the lot - hooray for salvage cars!!

I came back from a 6 hour lecture at the University to an empty driveway, which I'll admit was a little sad.  That little car was with me when was working as a dental assistant because I was unable to get into hygiene school.  Dad and I drove the 1,500 miles to Loma Linda in that car, to begin a completely new chapter in my life that resulted in a rewarding career, meeting the man who would become the husband that I adore and feel lucky to wake up next to each day.  So, that's my ode to a great little car... may she live long and prosper!
